Had an old system that somebody wanted the drive destroyed in, thought I'd grab a quick picture before I did the deed...

One of my first shots with my Fuji S9600.

Nice photo Dano, i really like the lighting in it. the Fuji S9600 isn't a DSLR is it?

Great idea but the lamp shade reflection detracts from it IMO. If you changed the lighting slightly, something with less of a reflection I reckon this could make an awesome shot.

Also, try to play with the white balance for some interesting effects. Drop the temperature right down for a blue tint, it will look good with that too.

You're right, makes it look more 'mechanical'/colder...

I'd prefer the first shot, without the lamp, same angle but keep the same lighting / colours. The last one doesn't look or feel right in the way it looks, the dust and positioning doesn't make it as pleasing to look at.

Yeah, try an even stronger blue tint and an increase in contrast, I reckon it would look well. Something like this:

In all honesty I didn't take much notice of the lighting atthe time, that part of the workshop is only lit by that one old lamp and I just threw the drive under it to cast some light on the subject but certainly if I was attempting to re-do the shot I would go for something far less obvious, not to mention at the very least removing the clip on lamp with the dead bulb from the picture :)

I did nothing to the picture other than auto-levels which only adjusted things in a very minor way, I'll play with some editing later on :)

i like no.1,i took some a couple of years back, exactly how scuzi is explaining, if you don't mind, i'll post a couple to show you :)

I think all thwe shots you posted look great, it's a really interesting and different thing to photograph, and the lighting on them looks great as well.

I think my favourite one is probably the first one, looks almost like a catalog picture. I think the only thing I might try to do would be to get rid of the reflection of your lamp shade ;)
