Where does that water go?

Does it not amaze u water coolers where the water goes? i mean 6 months down the line and i can see my reservoir needs a slight top up!

Ps. i hit 96 deg water temp till my system auto rebooted!

was hoping to see some bubbles!

You get coolant evaporation through the sidewall of the tubing. Some are better than others, ever noticed cheap tubing changing colour over time? It's often not just on the surface but right through the side walls. The chemicals have leached through tiny micropores. Its a tiny amount, so more likely evaporation through a poor seal on the res or a joint/thread.

It's a leak of sorts. Tubing is not impermeable to water. Very few things are really. It's just that with something like copper pipe, the rate at which water moves through the metal is very very slow. With plastic tubing it's noticeable. fornowagain rather beat me to it though, so I guess the above amounts to 'I agree with fornowagain'.

mmmm bubbles. Would have liked to see that, just a thought though- as temp rises so will the pressure in the system (assuming it's a closed loop). Could lead to leaks or a hose firing off squirting HOT water into your case.

That said i'd presume if you had any additives in the boiling point would be higher, so you might be waiting a while for those bubbles.

I could murder am aero right about now :)

Not so much. Water doesn't change volume very significantly with temperature, and it's only changing through 20 degrees or so. Nearly everyone has a reservoir or a fill tube with a little air at the top, so any tiny change just compresses or rarefies the air slightly, and air is very compressible.

Out of the many risks of watercooling, thankfully this isn't one. Just don't let the water freeze, that one is a significant volume change.
 
hmmm i have a spare toyo rad from my old diesel 4runner sat in the yard. . . .

Either that or hopepipe a direct feed out the well, through the system and back into the well. No rad needed then :) thinking sub ambient temps then.
