One of those odd problems....

I don't expect any joy or answers from this, but you never know.... so here goes....

About 2 days ago, websites that previously worked fine like BBC and Kotaku (to name only 2) will no longer connect when I go to ...
www.bbc.co.uk
www.kotaku.com

BUT.....

If I try adding a little extra to the link such as....
www.bbc.co.uk/news
www.kotaku.com/5728867/weekend-talk-amongst-yourselves

Then I can get to the websites and navigate them and open every page perfectly.

Has anyone heard of any nonsense like this happening before ?

Never heard of this before. Completely has me stumped.

Can you try a completely different computer / laptop to test it with your broadband (clean install of windows - if you can) . It rules out a problem with your computer. Suspecting some software or configuration IMHO.

you may be refreshing the non-working page from the cache rather than the correct working page

Well a quick check shows that everything connected to the same router has the same problem.
So it's either the router or the ISP......

......... and then as if by magic, the problem is resolved !!

Thanks for the input anyway guys !!

(I'm gonna blame this one on ISP shennanigans)
