I've made my spare bedroom into a VR room, my PC is still in my main bedroom, with a hole through the wall for the rift cables, a display port cable and a USB extension.

I have a GTX 1080 (2 x display port, 2 x HDMI, 1 x DVI), the monitor in the main bedroom is connected by DVI (has DVI, HDMI and VGA inputs), the monitor in the VR room is connected by display port (has display port, HDMI and VGA inputs), both are 1080p, the rift is connected by HDMI.

The problem I'm having is if the monitor in the VR room isn't on when I turn the PC on I can't just turn it on later if I want to use it, it just says no signal, I have to turn the monitor on then restart the PC. Also, when using steam VR I get a warning that I'm mirroring my screen which can cause performance issues.

I can't say I've noticed any performance issues, the warning is still there even if I turn off the monitor in the main bedroom before launching steam VR, maybe things would be better if I didn't use the second monitor but that's not really an option!

I'm guessing the first problem is display port is disabled if it's not in use at power on, is this a setting I can change or is there any other work around? Alternatively is there a way to connect both monitors to the same output and use them both at the same time? I've seen splitters but they only seem to work with one output at a time. If there is a way to do this would I still get the warning about mirroring displays or is that just because it's sending the same image to two separate outputs?

Thanks,
Rob
