One Question Is the 400d better than then 30d??

I'd but the 30D before I bought a 400D if that answers the question.

You can't really say which is better without specifying what "better" means, for example.

The 400D is smaller, is that better?
The 400D is 10Mp, the 30D is only 8Mp, is that better?
The 30D has faster autofocus, is that better?
The 30D has a longer battery life, is that better?

I could go on but it shows that neither is perfect, you have to pick the one which has the best match of features and price.

That's right, it's down to personal preference, I didn't find the small size of the Canon a problem, that's why I chose it over the Nikon models.

Would be best to go into a local high street camera shop and have a hold of a few cameras.

I was thinking of upgrading my camera to say a 30d or 5d. I currently use a 350D and i am pleased with the pictures that it can produce. I got round to talking with a friend and we were thinking that if you placed one picture for a 30D or 5D and one from my 350D, would you really notice the difference?

I am assuming from my own knowlegde that the main reason for the quality of the photograph is from the glass that you use.

IMO the 30d will have a better feel than the 400d as have used one before and the bulid quality is nice, but is it worth the extra cash?

Try before you buy and see how you feel with both.

The quality of the sensor is also a factor, although it will have less pixels, they will be of higher quality and so can yield better colour reproduction. Also a major factor is the lens that you are using your camera with.

TBH mate I think the 350D and the 30D have exactly the same sensor, 8mp Canon CMOS, I don't see them developing the same size sensor twice

Nope they use different sensors iirc.

The big clue is that the 350D is 8.0mp and the 30D is 8.2mp.

Eight megapixel CMOS sensor (not same as EOS 20D)

Even though thats the 20D i guess the 30D wouldnt use the same sensor.

Josh

EDIT- Did a google and someone wrote this

BTW: The 30D and 350D do NOT have the same sensor. The 350D sensor is a 8mp sensor; smaller than the 30D.

Wasnt sure myself btw.

I thought they were pretty similar and have read that they are indeed different although I have no evidence to back it up
my personal opinion (unsubstantiated) is that they are the same sensor in development but the better of the batches go to the 30D's which maintain their quality throughout the CCD, which gives them a slightly larger chip maybe!?
however that could be complete pap

however, I would still get a 30D over the 400D given a choice for the features, and the build

Having used the 300D and jumped up to the 30D, also taking into account the new 400D, I'd say the winning point for buying the 30D is that the layout is far superior and it's so easy to find what you want quickly.

The 30D has some great features and the fact that it's so easy to use, would make me buy it over the 400D again if I had to. Although it's probably going to be the 40D by the time anything goes wrong with my 30D (touch wood. Oh god I hope I haven't jinxed myself :o)
