Hello memory lovers,
just a quicky, I fixed up a mates shuttle last week which was freezing up for some unknown reason, after trouble-shooting it for ages it became apparent that the memory was overheating.
Crucial Ballistic PC3200 2-2-2-6 (2.8v)
I know this memory can run warm and the fact the shuttle sits them side by side didn't help.
There was scope to rig up a tiny fan to try and cool the sticks down (pretty cramped in a Shuttle) but instead I swapped them out for a single 1GB stick of Samsung DDR 3-3-3-8 (2.6v) and everything was fixed. I explained to my mate the situation and he was happy enough to trade his 2x512MB sticks for the single 1Gb stick if it meant a quick fix (its just his MCE2005 media system).
Anyhow I have now installed the Ballistix PC3200 into another system to give a good testing but I noticed that one stick is running cool and the other very very hot indeed? (can touch it for a second before my finger burns!)
Is this normal?
I will leave it running Orthos Large-FFTs for 6 hours and then swap the sticks into different sockets to see if its something to do with the mobo or the sticks?
