One thing bugging me about 360 games

Hi all.

There is one thing bugging me about all of the 360 games I have played.

The lack of Aniostrophic filtering. I can see that AA is being applied (although this varies from game to game) yet in all games, textures after a certain point are always blurred.

This is especially apparent in prey (on the mavity walkways) and in COD2 when you look at the floor or along stone walls.

I am not complaining as I understand that this is a new console for the programmers to get the hang of however I am wondering whether it is a limitation of the hardware or whether its something that the programmers just can't seem to get right at the moment.

Any thoughts on the topic?

I would certainly say that it is not a hardware constraint ( I believe we are quite awhile away from that scenario ), it is really down to individual developers to enable these features but being so early in the console life span I think we will start to see the benefits of the excellent gpu in the 360 around this upcoming christmas season and then 2007 onwards

I've been annoyed by the lack of AF from the beginning...its got to be 2x at most.

I've certainly noticed it in Oblivion. But it's about the only thing worse than the PC version. Everything else in 360 ESIV seems better. ;)

Early early early days yet. Developers have only started to scratch the surface of graphical capabilities so they won't want to push their luck by throwing out 3.46trillian triangles and worrying over AF - otherwise all the gamers would be moaning about speed and tearing issues wouldn't they ;)

Seriously though, give it time. Gears of War DOES have it, and I guess because it's coming from MS studios, they'll know how to work the hardware better than anyone else so a lot of houses will be waiting to see how far they can go.

We've seen from gears of war alone that the console is capable of so much more. We just need time and patience. Xbox titles at first weren't exactly hot either, but a good year and a half down the line, titles began to shine.

* You only need to look at Ghost Recon's Dry Dock map to see that theres a lot of potential there - that map literally made my jaw drop upon first seeing it.

* Burnout Revenge's speed. Its the fastest racer I've ever seen, I couldn't even handle the extreme speed and I love car games.

* PGR's online Live capabilities have yet to be bested. I rarely play the game but admit that its features online are superbly implemented.

* Fight Night 3's visuals. Utterly incredible.

I could go on tbh but things will get better.

Not played f-zero then?

I say stop worrying about the graphics and just play the games!

There've been some brilliant F-zero games, but in terms of 'manicness', Burnout is more severe IMO. The speeds in F-zero are somewhat token given the ridiculous track widths and corner frequency (and yes, I have played them to the end).

the new burnout is way faster than f zero series, in that little f1 car when i first boosted, i literally held on for life, im tempted to buy it again

anyhoo the only thing bugging me about the games.....is the lack of them over the summer drought, as i wont be able to afford them when im a poor student

Get a job, save up. you can easily get 280 a week over summer.

Whereabouts is this? Single-player campaign, co-op campaign or multiplayer?
