onedrive for business problem

Hi,

I'm struggling with onedrive for business.

It tells me it is syncing 1,277 files but there is a cross on the directory in my c: drive. When I look at the folders syncing, they are all ticked except one, which just shows the symbol for syncing. I look into that and all the files in it are ticked. I can see hidden files so all files are visible.

When I click on sync problems, all it says is "an error has occurred....get in touch with your helpdesk. I am my own helpdesk so a little bit stuck.

Any help would be appreciated

How many files are there in the directory, are you syncing to a users onedrive or a sharepoint online document library?

it's onedrive. There's about 7,000 files in about 2,000 folders. i've used a program to check the number of characters in the file names and all seem to be under 255

Hmm that's strange then as you are under the 20k file limit, it sounded like a problem I had when we were syncing a sharepoint online document library and hit the 5k file limit. It started throwing loads of weird sync errors and only after removing the sync folder and re-adding it did I get the error explaining the document library was too big to sync (over 5k files).

Is this being sync'ed anywhere else? If so is it working ok there? Are you able to do a test sync to virtual machine to see if it works ok?

I had a problem with syncing stuff to onedrive - turned out one of the files had a special character in the name which was OK on the local filesystem but not on onedrive. Not sure what character it was, but the unsupported ones are here:

I've stopped syncing the folder, deleted what was online, made a copy of the files and am trying syncing again another location, transferring a master folder at a time. Worked fine for the first batch then the next folder seems to be stuck on 623 files syncing. I went in to the folder and found a few "thumbs" files (I thought I'd deleted all of these) with crosses and have deleted those but gone through every other file and they all have circle syncing symbols but I can't tell if it's stopped or not. Been stuck on 623 for a couple of hours now but no problems mentioned or other crosses.

I'll try searching file names for odd characters
