OnHub

Appreciate what they're trying to do here but by the looks of things it just looks like the first in the line of many routers with the same functionality like automatic updates and increased protocol support. Supposedly ASUS are making their own OnHub as it's created by TP-Link.

The one ethernet port actually caters for me perfectly as I also run a switch, so really am interested by the increased WiFi performance without paying for anything else.

Not likely to pre-order as I'm happy with the performance of my ASUS N66U at the moment, but happily follow its developments.

It's a nice compact size but I'll be sticking with my RT-AC68U for another good few years.

Wonder what the Asus OnHub will be like.

In the video this thing looks like a shorter but fatter Amazon Echo.

So they are trying to solve the problem of people hiding routers under tables but design something that can't be mounted to the wall or ceiling unlike many already on the market? Are they expecting people to put this on a coffee table and run cables across the floor (and just like the Amazon Echo advertisements they don't show it plugged in)? Ubiquiti's giant smoke alarm design is surely a better solution to this problem.

On the other hand, having the GUI be an app that just telnets updates could be a nice development.
