Onkyo 606 replacement.

What would be a good replacement for the said amp? It still works but the HDMI handshake is a pain as I have to keep turning things on and off all the time to get the handshake to recognise.

I'm out of the loop so are there as good a amps out there now with say less power draw and better specs for say around the £200 mark?

Technology moves on and amps now use switch mode power supplies to keep costs down and maintain the "on paper" power specs, but in the end you do get what you pay for. A £200 AV Receiver won't match the real world performance in terms of scale and dynamics of a 606.

As for the power draw, the amp will only draw it's maximum quoted wattage when running at full volume. That rarely happens for most of us. If you're serious about reducing power consumption the get speakers that are easier to drive. Speakers at 86dB will consume a lot more power to make the same volume as speakers at 89dB. Of course the question is how long it will take you to save on power compared to the cost to upgrade.

hi, i got the 606 for £200 when it was on close out :). I thought maybe these days i could get the same quality spec for the same price. Regards power id be happy for the amp to sit at low wattage while in standby as my 606 draws around 50w :eek:

The 606 is fine apart from the handshake fault which seems was a big problem with this model. im completely out the loop regards amps now so ill have to do a bit of research.

Whats the best regarded value for money amp atm?
