I'm looking into getting a decent surround sound system to replace my z-5500 speakers and have come across the Onkyo HT-S5305B amp and 5.1 speakers. Reviews seem good but just wondered if anyone on here has any experience with them?

I'd be connecting them to my PS3 and media PC

They're meant to be pretty good, but some people are having an issue where the sub seems to go into standby at times. I believe there were a few threads over on avforums about it but I can't seem to access the forums atm. I'm sure if you google it you'll get a more detailed explanation.

I believe the models HT-S6305 and HT-S3305 don't have this problem.

EDIT: Found a brief mention of the problem here: http://www.avforums.com/forums/onkyo-products/1302705-onkyo-ht-s-6305-problems.html

Yeah, they look pretty good in terms of bang for buck for simple home cinema set up. Not many reviews and they seem pretty hard to get hold of, not many places stock these. The slight lower budget Onkyo HT S3305 is seems much easier to get.

Looking for one myself.

The HT-S3305 only seems to be stocked at richersounds, but for £300 it's good value for money! :)

It's a shame that the 5305 isn't much more expensive (£20-30) but does seem to have this sub problem.

Will hopefully be getting a S3305 system in the near future myself.

Certain Currys stores are doing this for £250.

I know cos i've just bought it :p

I'm not as clued up on audio systems and not very good at reviews so all i'll say is that it's an extremely good system, really good crisp and clear sounds and some really nice bass which doesn't distort until it gets to a stupidly loud level. (Ran it in for a while before cranking it up though!)

I'm already thinking about adding seperates like a CD Player but at £150 for the cheapest one seems a little much when the blu-ray player I have plugged into it plays CDs aswell.

Was this the 3305 or 5305 system? I presume it was the former? Would love to hear how your finding it once its all set up.

Sorry yeah it's the 3305. As I've said above though, it's absolutely awesome for the money. My friend bought a Bose 2.1 system at the same time and paid double the price. I prefer mine but that my be because he has the bass turned right up. :p

I thought £300 was a good price for the 3305, £250 is cracking value :D

Cheers for the heads up :)
