ONKYO HTS3305

I recently got the HT-S5305 as it was only £50 more than the HT-S3305 which gets you an active sub (27-150Hz vs 30-150Hz frequency response) and HDMI 1.4a certification. Also someone on AVForums said the following re: HT-S3305 vs HT-S5305

AVForums said:
They are both based on the 308, but the addition of the Active Sub on the 5305 means you have much, much more future proofing. It is easily worth the extra £50 if you can ever see yourself upgrading the speakers.

Here are the specs direct from Onkyo for both systems:

I'm by no means an expert, I'm really just relaying info from others but having owned the HT-S5305 for a week I have got to say it's well worth £300. So far I've watched The Expendables (DTS Master Audio), Star Trek (Pro Logic II), 2012 (Pro Logic II) and Gamer (Pro Logic II) through the system and I was blown away by how good the sound is :)

Last but not least, if you have a PS3 this guide is really handy for setting up the PS3 to output DTS/Dolby to your Onkyo AVR over HDMI: http://www.avforums.com/forums/onkyo-products/696423-faq-setting-up-ps3-onkyo-amp.html

I'm in Germany and just spotted this system for sale here brand new, works out at about £185. Is it worth it for me?

I currently have

Sony AV Amp - DTS Fairly high end in its day but no HDMI and nearly 10 years old
Monitor Audio BR1 front
Celestion centre
Technics stereo amp powering Polk Audio sealed sub.

Currently have no rears as wiring them up would be an issue.

Should I go for the Onkyo? If I do then I need to move in the next hour before driving back to France for the ferry.

Thanks

JUst to add, it looks like the 5305 is being replaced by the HT-S5405, with the newer updated receivers. Richer Sounds have it already for just under £400, so you might be able to find the 5305 quite cheap now.

Thanks,

Might just go for the 5305 then, my z5500 is doing some weird things now, they've lasted over 5 years and were £179 delivered when I bought them :D , figured these will be a nice step up in performance and connectivity

I upgraded from a Z-5500 to a 5305 a month ago and haven't regretted it for a second. The sound quality is comparable, however the connectivity, self configuration and upgrade-ability make it a far better system in the long run.

The only downside is that i spent £350 for it, and you can now get it for £311 from the same site less than a month later, grrrr.

Good thing for you though :p

Those of you which have the S5305 (with active sub) do you notice a clicking sound when the sub switches itself back on after going to "sleep" during quiet parts of films? When I was looking into the 5305 this was mentioned a lot on the AVforums.
