Is there on-line back up / cloud storage service which basically works the same as a seperate drive, ie you don't have dedicated folder on your PC with the same files which updates, but the online storage is completely seperate and distinct from the local files?

The few storage services I've looked at all seem to work like Dropbox / Drive where you have to keep the files on your PC, and the back up just dynamically updates. I'm looking for something that works seperately.

Yes if you dont set it up to sync with a folder, you can just dump files to it 20gb or 15gb limit i Think unpaid....

you can just access it through the web you dont need anysoftware on the PC just a google acount and login to google.co.uk or where ever you live.

I like google cos i have an android phone and that is built in.

i have 17gb of space most of which is taken up with photos.

100gb is about 20 quid a year.
1tb seems to be about 100 quid, converted from SEK.

Amazon Drive works like that - with a comprehensive web portal you can simply drag and drop to and software that allows you to map it as a separate network drive if you wish - if you are a Prime member you get 5GB IIRC included and the prices aren't too bad for larger amounts (but not amazing either).

To add to this, if you have a huge amount of data, then perhaps look into Amazon S3. It may work out cheaper for longer term storage.

Take a look at https://www.boxcryptor.com/en/ . Creates a separate, virtual drive with built in encryption which is a front end to a number of Cloud providers including OneDrive and Dropbox. Then set your system to back up to that "drive". Makes for a hand online back up solution whilst still giving a measure of confidentiality.

EDIT: I misread your question. You're looking for entirely online storage rather than duplicate of local storage. I'll leave my reply here because it might still be useful in other ways. I think you can do this with both OneDrive and Dropbox, but it's not the default behaviour.

Google Drive works well, I've got a 2TB plan on it. You don't even need to load the application all the time - I typically only sync it over night when I know I've added several files I want to ensure are backed up. Alternatively have it running all the time and it'll backup when it spots changes, both work well.

Depends how secure you keep your google account though, multifactor authentication and only trusting a handful of devices at most is best tbh.
