Looking into some online storage backups for my WHS for my photos and Home videos.

Anyone recommend any online backup options?

I use Carbonite that offers unlimited backup for internal disks in one computer. $55 a year but if you use the promo code MACBREAK you get two months free.

Mozy also seems to be a popular option.

I use a combination of Time Machine (to keep local backups of my iMac), DropBox and Carbonite to keep my files safe.

If I have an AFP share from my mini server to my MBP would it be possible to use Carbonite or Mozy to back up the data on that as well ?

Nope. Internal drives only. You'd need another Carbonite/Mozy account for the other computer or go with a Pro account but that would probably get a little on the expensive side.

You could use something like ChronoSync to move data you want backing up onto the one computer (with the biggest internal drive) and then let Carbonite back it up from there. That's what happens to the Documents folder on my MacBook. ChronoSync regularly moves it to my iMac and then Carbonite takes care of it from there... I also sync certain real important files to my DropBox as well. I swear by the rule that unless in at least three places data doesn't exist! :D

Cheers Lordy :D

I like the idea of unlimited backup space would those install on server 2003 though? the basis of WHS?

I use Mozy and have the client running on my Atom powered XP Pro box which acts as my file store. I've got over 100GB uploaded to it now, costs about £3 to £4 per month IIRC.

You guys trust these companies with your personal videos and files? or do you encrypt them pre-upload?

The client encrypts data as it is uploaded. Anything uber sensetive I'd encrypt myself just to be sure or encrypt and use stegonography if you're trully concerned.

Most of the stuff on my computer is of no interest to anybody including the videos of my wife! :p :D
