Online gaming downloads?

direct2drive
dlgamer

google them, used both, both good although generally you can buy from online game retailers and have games posted to you for the same or less.

You're sort of paying for the convenience of downloading on some titles.

If you've got a lot of time on your hands, I reckon Metaboli looks quite interesting for SP games. You pay a monthly subscription and then can download and play as many games as you want. So for students/unemployed etc it would be good, you could blast your way through a few single player games each month and then unsubscribe when you run out of titles than interest you.

Do you mean like Steam?

Nah, metaboli is a bit different. With steam you buy the games, you just need steam installed to play them. With metaboli you pay a monthly sub, and download and play as many of their games as you have time for without additional cost, FOR AS LONG AS YOU KEEP UP YOUR SUB.

As soon as you stop subscribing, the games lock and won't play anymore. If you re-sub, it unlocks them all again. I've been tempted a few times, but I wouldn't have the free time to make it worthwhile.

anyone used the alienware download gaming site?

Yeah, its a reskin of the D2D service as far as I can tell, except that it lets you buy in US$ since there isn't a British version of the site. It uses the fileplanet DL manager for downloads etc. The Alienware version currently has the edge over the Direct2Drive version in that it works, for some reason I cant add games to the basket on Direct2Drive.co.uk and Direct2Drive.com doesnt allow British people to buy.

I had a look at Steam for COD4, my god it's expensive when compared to the other on-line retailers :(

I wonder if it'll be in the sales...

It's about £29.99 at some of the large places, but downloading is expensive :(

Was thinking about getting a game, but won't bother now. Thinking:
COD4
Race07
Civ4

because i just went out and bought cod4 as a christmas present and in 3 seperate well known retailers on the high streets it was 34.99

and it started off at 25 in some high street retailers!

Well I went to add COD4 to my cart on the Uk direct2drive store and nothing happens. I know it's not cookies etc. On the USA store it works fine. Oh well they won't be getting my business then..
