Hi i'm having trouble with counterstrike and tf2. i've tried adjusting rate and cmd_rate and all those things but still have problems. when i join a server i've got lots of choke and then the internet completely cuts out. this happens to everyone connected to the wireless network in my house. i've heard that this can be a problem with certain routers. now, i'm not entirely sure of the router that i own. but looking around on the internet i think its the

Netgear DG934G

(well its this one)

so anyway. i'm thinking that trying to open the ports for counterstrike source and tf2 would be useful. but i dont know how to do this.. there are guides for my router on http://www.portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Netgear/DG934G/DG934Gindex.htm
but i can't find a guide for counterstrike source or tf2.
is port forwarding the answer? which ports do i need to open? any other ideas would be great thanks!
help!?

thanks

(sorry for my last thread)

Wireless is for Girls Not for Gamers.
Hard wire your gaming system.

yeah, I'm not one of those lucky live alone geeks who gets to have the connection all to themselves. i live with my friends and must share the internet so i wont be changing that :'(

No you won't but you could sort the house out giving the others wifi & having your system hard wired ;)

the only phone line is coming from a room really far away. i've tried having my pc connected to the router but it means having it halfway in the hallway and half way in the room. this isn't even my house i just have all my stuff here cause its where my friends and girlfriend live .. my house is the other side of town so i never go there. therefore i can't move anything around.. but yeah. can anyone explain why it kills the internet for everyone if i try to game?.. and still anyone know if port forwarding would help or what other solutions there are other than connecting directly to the router?

Port forwarding won't make any difference, you're connecting to a server, not hosting one. Also that router is a Sagem (F@ST 2504), not a Netgear.

You need to troubleshoot a bit, unless there's some obvious configuration options for the router or issues with Sky (is it just the wireless that falls over?) That means trying it hard wired first of all - even if that's not how you intend to use it it'll at least help you narrow down the problem.
