I would like a device connected to the LAN or internet connector light.

We've a garden room and we have sometimes forget to turn the heater off which is a massive waste of money. If I plug a plug bank into the wall then is there a way to have a LAN connected device light a light in the house so I don't forget to turn the heater.

We turn it on remotely sometimes with https://www.airconcentre.co.uk/products/timeguard-wi-fi-controlled-fused-spur-tuya-edition-fstwifitu?variant=39685254054021&currency=GBP&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=google shopping&gclid=CjwKCAiAkrWdBhBkEiwAZ9cdcLHrl0vSfCFD-l6NarFk-cH4sO3U68Pkzm0EwZUD_OvRRv8c8PxAThoCRAsQAvD_BwE

actually we have the previous model which they've stopped making.

Some of the simple remote wifi sockets had a very low maximum energy throughput which didn't seem suitable for plugging a heater in.

Do Hive still do motion sensors? Maybe they could be used with a smart plug to knock the heating off if it doesn’t detect motion for 10 minutes or so?

You could couple a smart plug with a motion sensor that switches the plug off if it doesn't detect movement for a certain amount of time...

I would be interested in this for Google Nest. Does something like this exist? I like the home/away assist where Nest goes into eco mode if you're not at home, but I would also like it to go into eco mode when I'm upstairs. That's because there is no need to have the heating on when in bed. Something 10 or 20 minutes of no activity on a downstairs detector would trigger eco mode.

What you want is a dead mans switch - so when you are in there, you must hold down the push button for the heater to work. It'll go off if you let go.

Just set a reminder on your phone. Or use one of those cheap timed plugs that are typically used to turn a table lamp on and of at specific times when you go in holiday.

My kids sometimes turn the immersion heater on to have a shower late at night as they can't be bothered to walk downstairs to turn the hot water on at the boiler. Then they frequently forget to turn it off. So I just made it part of my nightly routine to check the switch on my way to bed (and moan at them in the morning).
