Hello,

As some of you might know, Bury F.C got kicked outta the F.A cup this week for unfair reasons

On the 20th December, an FA panel decided to remove Bury FC from this years FA Cup. The crime? Fielding a player who was on loan to the club in a replay against Chester City which Bury won 3-1. Hartlepool United, the club to which the player is contracted, had verbally agreed that he could play, but an administrative error meant that the supporting paperwork was not faxed to the FA.Once Bury FC became aware of this, they admitted the error to the FA. There is a good chance that if they had not brought this to the FA's attention, the error would have gone unnoticed. This kind of thing has happened before. Earlier this month, Leeds United were fined £2000 by the Football League for including six loan players in their match day squad, a clear breach of the rules. Their mitigating circumstances? A permanent player had been a late withdrawal through injury. In 1999 West Ham fielded an ineligible player in their Worthington Cup quarter final against Aston Villa. Emmanuel Omoyinmi had previously played in both legs of the second round for Gillingham. Their punishment from the Football League? The match had to be replayed. What's the difference between these two clubs and Bury FC? Size. Who cares about the small clubs? Certainly not the FA. The income generated from a cup run can be the difference between success and extinction for a club of Bury's size. If this 'crime' had been committed by Chelsea or Manchester United, would the FA have expelled them from this season's cup? I seriously doubt it. Please sign this petition to show your support for Bury FC's appeal against this ludicrous decision on the 28th December.

They broke the rules and should be punished. The severity of the punishment could be debated, but someone somewhere along the line didn't do their job properly and Bury (rightfully) got punished. The punishment is maybe a little harsh, but rules are rules.

Seems harsh, especially when Leeds did nearly the same thing in a League game and got a paltry £1,000 fine.

Replay behind closed doors would be fairer.

ps... I copied your opening post to the Brighton Fans forum :)

Good luck.

I think that's harsh treatment of Bury FC. Leeds though have themselves suffered from the FA 'justice'. This is so unfair it's comical.

The injustice Leeds suffered in their first season in the Football League is unbelievable. Because Leeds had been a non league side the season before they were obliged to play in the qualifying rounds of the FA Cup.

Unfortunately these fixtures clashed with League matches and the FA would
not allow Leeds to cancel either fixture. So on 11th September 1920 Leeds
dispatched their first team for an away game against Leicester in the League
and played their reserves against Boothtown at Leeds.

Leeds won the cup game 5-2 but Boothtown complained saying as Leeds played a weakened side the attendance suffered. The FA upheld the appeal and Leeds were fined and warned of their future conduct.

On the 25th September Leeds were drawn to play Leeds Steelworks in the cup on the same day that they were scheduled to play Blackpool away in the League. The FA however in their wisdom allowed Leeds to play a weakened side against Leeds Steelwork on the proviso that if they won they had to withdraw from the competition. Leeds beat Leeds Steelworks 7-0 and resigned from the competition.

That's freakin' awesome! Made my day, no wait... my christmas :D

signed....

also there's a story in todays NOTW about Burys appeal next week saying that a precedent has already been set because a team (I forget who) played an inelligible player in 1977 and got a replay

Leeds didn't win though. Any use of ineligible players by a team results in the match(es) in question being turned into a default loss.

Bury won their match, but had to have it overturned, and therefore went out of the cup because of it.
Leeds lost their match, and therefore can't have had any points taken off them (since it was in the league), and instead got a small fine, as something had to be given.

Perhaps a replay would be fair to Bury, but it's definitely not a case of the rules not being applied equally.
