Ive purchased a few of the race07 expansions and I don't seem to have much luck online. There are usually password protected lobbies or the same few on the same track.

Are there any other racing sims which have a bigger online community? I do really like race07 its just the there seems to be very few online. I did look at iracing but I don't fancy the subscription.

Thanks

Even if lobbies aren't passworded chances are they're running a mod you don't have. Racing sims are very fragmented this way. Race 07 is actually one of the better ones, rFactor and GTR2 etc are even worse. Best bet is to look for organized races.

Ahh damn! :/

I won't bother with those then. I nearly downloaded them to try them out online.

You wouldn't know if any of them are good for drifting?

Just seen that raceroom racing experience. Any knowledge about that?

iRacing is what you want if you're after an online racing experience.

Yeah. That games seem to me as one of those "you get what you pay for" things. Very good reviews. Might go for the 3 month subscription as it seems there is a deal on now. £7 a car seems steap but there are only 2 or 3 cars I want anyway.

If I buy the cars on iracing and my subscription is cancelled then I renew again a few months later will I still have the cars?

yea.
pcars also has a great online community so far but you can't buy into the beta right now like you used to be able to

Your best bet are the Forza/GT series on consoles if you want reliable and active multiplayer. If you're looking exclusively at PC though, I'm honestly not sure, the communities are quite small and are splintered between mods and expansions.

some of the more hardcore sims have good communities but a lot of them are mainly nascar/american stuff
https://www.simraceway.com/ seems to be in open beta but I've never tried it, it seems to be another iracing type game where you have to buy cars though :|

this vid ain't max graphics

Yeah this looks brilliant. Such a shame you can't buy into it now.

I do have Forza 4 and Horizon on the xbox. Ive just bought a wireless receiver for my microsoft wheel so I can use it on my pc on the desk :)

iRacing does look good but I a little expensive. £7 a car but I hear they are around 1GB so they must be very high detail.

I might try the simraceway tonight.

I should just download them all and test them. I might actually find the one I like the most then.

Iracing is the only sim worth checking for online racing, its in a league of its own. It has vastly more detailed online features than anything else, a massively active community and provides by far the cleanest and most realistic racing environment online. Everything else is gash in comparison when it comes to online. On top of this it has the best tracks (laser scanned), the best physics and is constantly updated with improvements to the tyre model etc. I repeat nothing else comes close, make sure you have a wheel and pedals though otherwise you will get slaughtered.

As for the other sims:

Sim raceway is horrendously bad and dead, no one plays it.

Simbin titles are also pretty dead and the public racing is laughably bad, they are also very dated in terms of physics etc.

Forza/GT are popular but the standard of online racing is appalling and the physics are gash.

Rfactor 2 is dead online

Pcars online is poor and the physics are substandard relative to proper racing sims.

Iracing is the only option, it's the cream of the crop by miles

Thanks for the helpful post bud. Might try the 3 month trial and buy just one car for now. Probably the Williams F1 :p

If I do cancel at the end of the 3 months and then start paying again will I keep the Williams F1 car I purchased for £7?

Thanks again

Yes u can resubscribe whenever you want and all your cars/tracks you got will still be there.

I'd strongly advise against getting the f1 car btw, you won't be able to drive it until you get to an A class license which requires you to race lower license cars first. It's also brutally hard relative to other cars.

A good first car to buy is the skip barber, its massively popular and has the latest version of the tyre model which most cars don't yet have and you will be able to drive it once you get out of rookie class as its a D license car (next step up from rookie).

You should watch this, it will explain how iracing works... It's deep, very very deep

Another vote for iRacing.

Yes it's relatively expensive, but you get what you pay for. You can get plenty of racing from the base content.

It's also the most difficult sim to get good at and requires a significant amount of practice compared to other sims, but it's worth the effort in the end.

The biggest plus for me is the online organisation. There are always races being hosted and for the most part you'll get a full grid almost all the time. It's also the cleanest racing you'll get outside of private leagues. You might get the odd very optimistic overtake, but you'll never see someone driving the wrong way deliberately or someone starting from the back and taking out ten cars in the first corner, like other online racers with public severs.

skating on ice is just like real life :D
always amuses me when people bash pcars but act like iracing is uber realistic

most peopkle who bash pcars have never even tried it they just listen to all the troll idiots

BTW do I need to post the iracing recover from any spin by hitting the brake and throttle together videos? i mean it's just like real life amazing

You could try www.weissbierbude.de for a Race07 community, they also (like the other sister sites) have an auto-updater tool that will download new custom content added to their server.

SimRaceway is a bit naff. The track quality varies massively between ok and poor, and some car prices are ridiculous - the McLaren MP4/4 is $38

Another vote for iRacing here.

Thanks for the replies.

Ile try that later.

Very tempted by iRacing. I need to check the monthly cost really. Suppose buying just one car will be good as learn to get very good at driving it.

I like the idea of licenses too.

I play both iRacing and pCARS, I have a senior tool pack for pCARS and I still say iRacing is better if you want to race online. IRacing is evolves and improves at a similar rate to pCARS. This seasons iRacing build is much better than the last and as I've played the game the feeling of driving on ice has improved beyond recognition over the last two years.

I think there's room for both games in my game time, but I think I'll be doing my racing online in iRacing for the foreseeable future. The way it's geared up for online racing out trumps anything that any other sim does by a mile. The only way to beat iRacing online with other sims is via private leagues. That requires an extra commitment I don't want, so I'll stick to public severs and races hosted by iRacing.

You get a few cars to start you off and you'll be eligible for a few of the leagues too. I've not bought any content yet, just been racing the Mazda Cup and Street Stock leagues for the past 2/3 weeks. No need to spend money right away, unless you want to of course.
