I've had this issue for quite a while, so I'll finally get round to asking about it on the forums.

Basically, when I play a steam game online such as TF2 or those free HL2 mods, I can play for maybe a minute until I get a message in red letters saying "there's a problem with the connection - auto disconnect in ** seconds" (or words to that effect).

Does anyone know what's causing this and how I can fix it? I paid for the Orange Box, so it is annoying to not be able to play one of the games.

No joy. When typing telnet speedtouch or telnet 192.168.1.254 into cmd, it just says it failed to connect.

Use an actual telnet/SSH client? Putty is a tiny, free, standalone client that'll do the trick :)

*edit*

obviously, the two commands you tried will fail if

a) your router isn't a speedtouch
b) your routers IP isn't .254

Try 192.168.1.1 - or whatever your router's IP is :)

Won't actually help if the router doesn't have SSH / Telnet on there.

It's extremely rare for a router not to have a telnet server service.

OP, can you tell us what router you actually have?

That'll have a telnet service, it's just probably not on .254 :)

try 192.168.1.1, and if that doesn't work, then check your ipconfig to get the IP of the default gateway :)
