Hey,

Does anyone have any suggestions for any online courses/training etc that would qualify me for a job/career? Perhaps something like the OU.

I'm looking for something new but struggling to think of professions I could enter this way.
thx all :)

That is a bit vague, you might want to indicate some areas of interest. There are any number of careers where you could initially do some self study or take a distance learning course or professional exams in order to get into an entry level role.

You mention the OU, yup they have plenty of courses that would be useful for any number of careers, law, IT, statistics etc.. depends what you want do to

there are also online courses from udacity, coursera, EDX

the University of London also has a whole range of distance learning courses run by LSE, SOAS, Kings etc...

There is also Birkbeck which is part of the University of London and runs degree courses part time with evening lectures.

Georgia Tech in the US runs and online computer science MSc, Columbia runs a Data Science MSc... a fair few regular universities in the UK also have distance learning degrees or short courses either vis distance learning or part time or both.

Aside from areas that requires practical/face to face skills - you're not going to learn medicine via distance learning nor are you likely going to become an actor that way... most things are available to you. So you mention you're struggling to think, well maybe have another think without your implicit assumption that there aren't many options - what would you consider doing and post it then people might be better able to help.

I am a student with the OU.

I can't offer any real advice as I'm dozing off, but I love it.

I do it part time with working in the week and its enough.

1st year done last week infact.

Do it my man, you wont regret.

Thanks a lot for your post and advice.

I know I have been vague and appreciate how that makes it difficult to offer suggestions. I am have a difficult time being more specific. In all honesty, any type of job that isn't going to be soul destroying is what I'm after.

I guess perhaps either office based or something that could be done from home would be idea. I have considered something IT related, perhaps 3d modelling, as I think it is something I would enjoy but I am unsure how practical that is.

Look at what jobs are out there and what the job requirements are. If there's loads of jobs in 3d modelling then good get on a course if you cant find any then it's possible getting a qualification is a waste of time. A general IT Degree may get you familiar with a few different parts of IT, from there you can decide what to do.

Just take time considering what you enjoy. I did science year before last and hated it. Changed subjects completely and now doing Humanities.

Be selective. Even if it takes longer than you'd like is better than rushing in and putting yourself in more misery. Remember you can always change subjects/disciplines.

You can speak up if you don't like it. Fear of not liking it is not a reason to not do it.

If education is what you feel you need right now and want to move forward with it don't put it off. Choosing to go into education later on is like exercise, choose what you want but do it now or do nothing and be a fat ******* forever.
