Just wondering if there is a feature or an app that actually stores your bookmarks as you create / delete them online?

Like my HTC Hero, its synchronised with my Gmail account so if I make an entry or add a contact in my phone book it will link it to my online gmail account. So if I need to view a contact without my phone then i can check my gmail account. I think this is such a cool feature that if I lost my phone I havn't lost everything.

I want to know if there is such thing with bookmarks? We create so many as we go along and when we need to do a clean install, we back up all our documents, conversations, mp3s and other stuff. Load Windows and realise all of the bookmarks are gone!

Know what i mean?

If you use Internet Explorer as part of your backup include the Favourites folder in your user profile.

If you use FireFox, try the X-Marks add-on. Create an account and it keeps a copy of your bookmarks. Reinstall your computer, install the add-on and download them again.:)

Opera has a built-in mechanism for synchronizing your bookmarks with other instances of Opera on other machines. The name of the feature escapes me, but a quick nosey around the settings should throw it up.

I'm suprised that windows live hasn't jumped in with a feature like this yet, would be very useful.

google chrome now synchronises your bookmarks across all installations. you just sign in with your gmail account and it syncs to that. Come reinstall, just sign in on chrome again and they're all there, even remembers the positions.

There may be a way to view them from your gmail account, I haven't looked.

I use Sitebar with Firefox and have my own copy of the server software running under one of my hosted domains.

It doesn't sync your normal bookmarks but allows you to have a sidebar of extra bookmarks which are stored online and hence accessible anywhere, (either by using the plugin or authenticating against the server and displaying as a webpage.

Another vote for Xmarks. I use it to sync my bookmarks between IE, Firefox and Chrome across my desktop and laptop. Very useful.

Just wondering if you, or someone can put the link up I could really have done with this last week and cannot find it in the add-ons section.

*edit*

Got it.

Thanks for this. Would be very useful to bookmark my sites as I go along and even view them through a browser!
