Hi, was wondering if anyone knew of a good / consistent way of watching / listening to japanese (in my case, I guess it could be applied to any language) tv online?

I google but come up with these crappy links to weird online streams, most of which are very short loops of about 5-6 snippets over and over...

I don't want links to illegal material, I'd happily pay for the service, I just want something I can leave running in the background to listen to / watch.

I have a friend who learnt a lot of italian simply by tuning into Sesame Street in italian every morning, but he had cable tv, I don't have anything like that...

Thanks

Japanese movies?

You could watch free Japanese channels by getting a massive dish outside and a digital satellite receiver. Thanks to dmpoole here, I can receive some FTA channels, but only as far as the Middle East. I can't imagine the dish size required to pick up Japanese TV.

BBC World has a Japanese service online, they may show videos on their website.

Then there's this: http://wwitv.com/portal.htm

I've got the "No Time Swahili". They sell Japanese tapes/CDs.

It is not a course like Pimsleur or Teach Yourself. I'm able to listen to the tape whilst walking or driving to and from work. There is plenty of explanation and verbal tests in English and Kiswahili every few minutes. There is no requirement to write anything down but can do so if want to.

An ebay search will lead you to sites selling Japanese mp3 courses. Hope this is of some use to you?

Cheers dude!

I found some nice links http://www.yosida.com/en/kanji.php?level=4&page=1 for learning the kanji (even with animated gifs of drawing them!) and some other stuff.

Perhaps I should collate a list...

May I ask the reason for you wanting to learn Japanese? It's just that most people who do so have an existing interest/hobby related to Japan and learn the language through that.

I'm into general Japanese pop-culture, and learn the language through music, TV shows, movies, radio shows (as well as various websites, books, software) etc etc etc.
