Hi, i have just been running a few tests, and everyonr i try including prime only shows and tests 1 core. Does anyone know what the problem could be here, bearing in mind when i load vista 64 on my other hard drive it works fine but not on Xp 32 bit. Cheers for any help in advance.

Make sure that the test suite is allowed to use all cores available first.
try the strait forward things first.
Are you comparing one OS to another or is it just a test to see if changing OS fixes the core problem?

Reflux how do you go about doing that mate im not sure to be honest? And i am using 2 o/s just cos one is better than the other in some respects and vice versa thats all. What do you mean about the test suite Invictus? Cheers guys.

Ok, so you've checked with CPU-Z, and it's only showing one core?

You can fiddle with the number of cores Windows sees in MSCONFIG - type MSCONFIG into Run and go to 'Boot' and click 'Advanced Options'. The number of processors option should be greyed out and left unticked - this way, Windows should see all the cores by default.

Also, are you sure there's nothing you've set in the BIOS that could be causing this? For example on my board I can set one or two cores on, and then turn HT on as well which gives me two + two virtual cores.

Ive tried this and its still the same, any other ideas? As i say it cant be a wrong setting in bios as all cores show on vista. All cores are enabled in the bios menu.

Go to device manager.
Check which comuter driver {Kernel} you are using.
Just click on the + by computer at the top.

Normally it would be ACPI multiprocessor PC.
I think in your case it isn't.
You can change the driver if its wrong.

Hi PCZ it says Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) PC is this correct? cheers for your help. If not how do i change it i click on it and it says cannot find a better match.

You've found the problen then, thats good.
You need to change it that is a single processor kernel.

In device manager click the + on comuter.
right click on ACPI advanced blah
Select update driver
select no 'not this time' to connect to windows update
select Install from a list or specific location {Advanced}
select don't search i will choose the driver to install
select ACPI multiprocessor PC from the list.
windows will update the driver and you will need to reboot.

It's harder to explain than do, its just a few mouse clicks.

PCZ thanks mate i have followed them steps however it doesnt give me ACPI multiprocessor choices, just ACPI and standard computer? Any ideas why i have also tried reinstalling os but still no luck. Thanks.

PCZ ive been into the bios and it was on 1.4, so i changed it to 1.1 but still no difference mate. As i say i dont think its a bios issue as when i boot my other hard drive with vista 64 on it recognises all 4 cores on all the programs i run. Any other ideas or has anyone else experienced this? Thanks.
