Only 1 Graphics card showing

Hey guys,

So I added my new cooler and a few bits and rebuilt the system (which I have troubleshooted for the following issue). I use 2 1080ti Aorus card, my problem is that whichever card sits in PCIE lane 2 is not showing in Windows at all. It doesn't get picked up by Nvidia, System or anything else. Surely lane 2 can't just have failed? I use X99 so it would be a pain to change the board.

If you've checked that your wiring to the PSU is all good...tightened the cooler down too much maybe? Might be worth reseating it and seeing if the problem is still there.

I just tried booting from slot 2 with the monitor plugged in and black screen, same problem with both cards. I will strip my pc now and double check the wiring but I think slot 2 has given up

No luck with the cables, right I am trying 1 last thing before coming back for advice on a board. I am reinstalling windows because this windows has been a bit funny. Back soon.

Which board is it? I noticed on my Asus x99 deluxe it has some switches for the pci-e slots. Didn't really look what they are for but could be worth a go?

Sounds like the slot is broken tho

I had an issue where the computer case I had was warped slightly and when the GPU was in the bottom slot, the card wasn't sitting in the PCI slot deep enough.

I raised the motherboard slightly, but putting a washer under each hex screw thing. Then adjusted the plate thingmy on the graphics card a touch so the card would sit lower into the slot.

I was able to check if both graphics cards were detected in the BIOS.

Crazy that mate, mine was just a bugged Windows. A fresh install fixed it.

I wrote the bottom slot, but It was the bottom red PCIe slot. The second from the top that the card would fit in! It sits pretty much in the middle of the PCIe slot part of the board, so the board could have been sagging slightly there...

The card might not have to be out of alignment in the slot all that much for there to be a malfunction. It might also have had something to do with the graphics cards being bent to hell from sagging.

At least you had a nice easy fix! I ended up having to take the motherboard out. Not much fun when there's a water cooling rad that has to come out first, I'm only just starting to get the technique down for finding the screw holes when assembling.

Mine could have been the same really, a sagging card because the 1080ti Aorus Xtremes are damn big. Maybe I never screwed them in perfectly and it sagged a little too much, glad you sorted yours mate and yeah it's all working sweet now. I might even update back to Windows 10 at some point just to see if both cards show. Saying that I get no issues with anything on 7 so I think I am better off on 7.

How many FPS more do you get tho? :D

Not sure about fps difference, I use 2 x 1080ti Xtremes so I never need to check :). All I know is that all of the problems I had are suddenly gone, I had issues with a number of things and everything dissapeared once I changed to 7 which just shows Windows 10 still has some issues.

Oh it's got issues! Each release is getting better though... I use 3x 144hz monitors and a 4k HDR TV setup with a Dolby Atmos Surround amp. With each release of windows 10, things seem to get a bit better. Just a few annoyances with windows forgetting where to output my sound now. Previously there were problems with desktop locations and Dolby Atmos just stopping working. The Multi-monitor setup is sorted now, and the sound works almost as it should. I guess Nvidia are mostly to blame for that though. Life's not a bed of roses at the bleeding edge.

I gave up SLI when my 780 Tis were replaced with two 1070s and to purchase a 1080 Ti just felt like a cost effective upgrade. SLI is great when it works. Like really great. The 780 TIs would eat GTA V alive.

I've even had trouble with this wee half height bugger not working on reboots. VGA BIOS Load A0 error or something along those lines.

Seems like the motherboard prefers it being grounded to the case.

I've had to swap out my h100i V2 for a warranty replaced h80i v2 that was lying around, due to an intermittent pump, and the temps are a hell of a lot lower for it! Do the failures ever end? Great warranties from Corsair and Gigabyte but the AIO Water coolers and Graphics Cards don't seem to go the distance.
