Hi,

I've never found that running memory out of sync with the FSB to be a particularly great thing to do. Since your old memory is PC2700 what happens if you add back in one of the 256MB sticks? This should force the system to run the whole lot in sync with the FSB and at least let you see if PC2700 RAM would be better (i.e. less stutters and smoother system performance).

You can use CPU-Z again to see if adding an old stick back in has changed the RAM speed.

Given it is running single channel mode anyway (from what I can tell from the AMD website) I doubt you can lose performance - you might even want to leave it this way and run 1.25GB!

Hope this helps,

Martin

hey martin, i've actually already tried that! i did it yesturday, and yes you are right, the new memory matches the speed of the old memory 333. the thing is that i ran 3d mark before and after and actually got a better score with the single 1gb module istalled so i'm going to stick with that i think.

it must be ok for the system to run the memory at 200 (400) because the memory selector on the crucial website chose it for me. now i'm not saying that means a lot but it clearly states on the site that this memory meets the specific requirements of my laptop and that memory purchased using the selector is gauranteed etc etc so my back should be covered! ;) although i might be totally wrong...

My Acer Ferrari 3400 laptop came with 512mb 333Mhz cas 2.5 ram, but was more than happy to run two 512mb DDr400 sticks at ran them at 200mhz even though Acer don't list support for it. I would have thought yours would be similar. Worth reading up on some of the notebook forums I guess. You can also get A64 tweaker to allow you to change bios settings in windows ie to run at cas2.

hey, i've looked at a64 tweaker, are you sure it will work on laptops? (esp with a turion processor), i cant find any specific information about it.
