Meh contacted support, see how they reply.

I wasn't rude, but I put out point across as strong as I could ;)
Cool, let us know if you get a reply & what they say!! :P

I had a P5W DH Dx.
I got as far as 340 x 9, but the shutdown bug drove me nutz. After hitting 'F10' exiting BIOS with a save the rig shut... OFF and then restarted. It also did this on EVERY fricking soft restart. The last straw for me is when the f^cking thing did the dance when Windows was booting. :slapass: Nice huh?

I could not deal with that, and discovered Asus designed this into the board to protect the BIOS settings when not running stock or 266. This info is documented on posts on THIS forum, by the female expert overclocker... Eva. (Eva is very good at overclocking) She discovered this bug months ago and contacted Asus about it, and it is to stay. The PB5 Asus does it as well.

Yeah it was fast, but how long were my components going to last?
As you may already have determined I Rma'd the ASUS and my ABIT arrives tomorrow. :toast:

Some new info from xtreme systems forums.

well, the tRD / read delay - shut down after saving or as you call it, the shutdown bug is fixed for the P5WDG2-WS PRO see http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showpost.php?p=1716413&postcount=42 so Asus can fix this, if they add Row refresh cycle and Read Delay in the bios.

kinda weird because Asus is a brend that fullfils customers needs, so why not fix this stupid problem that kills hardware

How many times do people restart their machines ??!?

Mine gets switched on, then switched off, that's it unless installing a program that requires it so not really a problem for me.

My system is currently on order, ignore the system in my sig ;) Will be Asus P5B Deluxe......

I agree, it's less of an issue with regular cooling. For phase change it's a show-stopper. People are reporting Mach2GTs that are blowing fuses due to this problem, and my own Vapo LS shuts down whenever the board cold-reboots, so everything comes back on with no cooling. Not good.

Does water cooling run only when it detects the motherboard is on?

I don't care what Asus think.

Its a ****** stupid thing and should be removed.

If Asus email back saying it won't be ill email back saying do you want the bill for my dead hardware? :p :D

What about the PW5 DH? This is supposed to be the top of the range board for normal users. Why do they introduce everything first on a lower end board? It was the same with the ability to drop the multi. :(

its probably because different teams within asus are working on different board ranges.

im sure that was mentioned before, when reasoning the 4 pin cpu connector on the p5w and the 8 on the p5b.

yes its fixed, now all i need is some multipliers above stock to be unlocked,

tried the p5w dh last night, it all came back why i put it away lol

ARgggghhhhhhhhh...

Why won't anyone listen? :)

Multipliers above stock won't be unlocked, ever. Except on XE chips.

The existing muliplier unlocking for retail and ES (Step5) CPUs is just a fudge of the SpeedStep register. It's not the same as an actual hardware multiplier change. XE CPUs have been able to change multiplier long before the latest BIOSs came out that allow retail chips to do it.

People think that Conroes are multiplier-unlocked when they're not. What they do have is a speed reduction mechanism to conserve energy, which is what Asus BIOS (and CrystalCPUID) exploit.

There won't be upwards multiplier unlocking on retail and ES (Step5) Conroe CPUs, mark my words! :)
