Only one core working on Q6600?

Hi there,

just installed my Q6600, and my 3dmark scores have not been consistant with what everyone else has been getting, so I've been delving a little.

One thing I just spotted is under CPU-Z, at the bottom of the CPU screen it claims I only have 1 core?

Name: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600
Code name: Kentsfield
(etc etc)

Selection (Processor #1) (greyed out)
Cores: 1
Threads: 1

Is this really correct? In Task Manager, I also only have one CPU Usage graph. If so, what could/should I be looking into to enable the other cores? I am running Windows XP 32 bit, if that helps.

Thanks,

David

It's not a new build, ported my HDs over. I really don't want to reinstall windows if I don't have to.

I've looked up the ACPI Multiprocessor thing, and I'm definitely running a non-multiprocessor one, so that's the issue. However, I can't seem to find a driver for it, if I select that and choose "Update driver" I only get the option of "ACPI PC" or "Standard PC"!

2 out of 4 is weird, it implies it isn't a single processor build, but the others are still being missed?

What operating system specifically is he on? I know NT only used to be able to recognise 2 processors for a while, perhaps an entry level version of XP or ME is limited to 2 as well?

That sounds like a good candidate then.

On the subject, thinking of upgrading to Vista soon - is the cheap version of that limited to a certain number of cores too?
