Only one core working?

Hi I have just installed a c2d e6600 in a msi p965 neo mobo. However I have just run the cpu benchmarks in sandra and the results were very poor. Around 50% less than it should be. Also core temp is only showing the temp for 1 core. Is it possible I have a duff cpu or am I missing something.

Any help appreciated.

Sorry just realised this is in the wrong place

Hi Rob

It is only showing one graph and cpu-z is only showing info for 1 core.

Very strange, also what does device manger show under processors, it should show 2.

What did you have running prior to installing the core 2 duo or was this a new build.

Rob

Rob,

This is a new build. Device manager shows 2 processors. I have done a screenshot of device manager, task manager and cpu-z but don'y know how to post it. Could you tell me please?

Hi,

The screenie shows task manager and cpu-z showing only one core and device manager showing 2. However I am only getting the use of one core.

Ive noticed you have a question mark in your device manger which says single chip!

Have you installed all of your chipset drivers, it might be worth a try re-installing them.

Ok, so i've reinstalled the chipset drivers, but that didn't fix it. So I updated the bios, re seated the cpu, cleared the cmos, but still no change. So I'm wondering if it's the cpu or the mobo that could be faulty. Any ideas anyone?

You checked the settings in your BIOS, for instance, my core2duo in my laptop has the option of "multicore support" in the BIOS. Does your board have that and is it enabled?

Hi, I've been over every setting in the bios numerous times and haven't seen any option like that. But thanks anyway.
