Only Picking up 1 Core

Ive just upgraded my A64 3500 (venice) to a A64 X2 4200 but when i ran 3dmark 06 my score is nearly the same maybe a little worse, so i got CPU-Z and ran that and it only seems to pick up 1 core, shouldnt it be picking up 2? here is a screenshot:

Any help much appreciated as i feel like ive just wasted my cash.

Installed the amd cpu drivers and\or the dual core optomizer program?

Also hit ctrl-alt-del and click on the performance tab to see if theres 2 cpu usage meters showing.

hmm nope, didnt think u had to install drivers for cpu's :0 what ones do i need seems to be a few? and also i only see 1 cpu usage meter.

I think all you need to do is install the cpu optomizer, reboot and that should be it.

u need to make windows see the second core , u should go to devices and click on COMPUTER -> ACPI and install the new one which will see the second core

hmm well i installed the optimizer driver , restarted and it still only picks up 1 core

ive just went into device manager aswell clicked computer found the acpi thing clicked update driver and it said it couldnt find a newer one...?

thats really weird, was the processor new ? when you right click my computer and go to properties and then device manager, click on the tab were it says processors and what does it say.

In device manager, try to replace the "computer" driver with ACPI Multiprocessor -driver.

Yeah its new i bought it from ocuk today, when i click on device manager and cpu it picks up two AMD Athlon X2 dual core processors 4200's

it looks alright to me , when hitting ctrl+alt+del can u see two cores in task manager?

Also click view\cpu history\one graph per cpu just to be sure (in the task manager\performance tab).

hmm have you enabled at bios your acpi settings? S1 state?

According to that screenshot, Device Manager is detecting the multicore cpu as it says "Multiprocessor PC", so windows must have installed the drivers... I thought you needed to download an XP update for multicores to work correctly? :confused:
