I just bought a new zotac gtx980ti from OCUK and thought id run firestorm 3dmark bench got a respectable 15000+ score but I notice that my processor is only showing as 801 MHz its an i7 4770k overclocked to 4.2ghz.
I've tried for hours to find a suitable answer but nothing really well explained

Mobo is an asus VI Formula with latest bios , EIST is disabled power setting in windows are set to performance. I am using Ai suit 3 as my OC windows tool as I'm not very confident yet with bios overclocking.

Any clues to how I can rectify this I imagine its just showing the idle clock speed and my system doesn't seem slow but all the other 3d mark scores show the correct clock speeds.

Thanks for any advise

Download CPU-z to give you a more true cpu speed. Some times 3d mark can read the speed slightly wrong and give an almost idle speed

I'd use the bios for overclocking, software is not the best and not as reliable There are plenty of guides around here on overclocking in the bios, it's nothing to be scared about.

As tyler_rjb mentioned it's probably showing the idle clock. Download both cpu-z and prime 95. Open cpu-z first and you should see the 800mhz idle clock, then fire up prime95 and start a blend stress test to give the CPU something to work on and you should see the speed update in cpu-z immediately.

That's just Haswell's power saving kicking in at idle. It's a good thing, 800mhz is normal when the cpu is under no load. Load it up and it will go back to the 4.2Ghz you have it clocked to. If it's done correctly the voltage should drop at idle as well. Auto overclocking is not the best way to do it though as most of the time it will apply more volts than are actually needed. Better to manually do it in the bios. There are loads of guides around and all you need to alter is the vcore, multiplier, LLC and maybe cpu input voltage.

i had cpu-z installed just grabbed the gpu-z ran (nice asus rog ones ) the prime95 test on real temp with processor clocked at 4400 and blue screened knocked it down to 4200 and ran fine:)
seems also now it posted at correct speed cheers for help.
I will start reading up on the bios overclocking as i want to know as much as possible i hate doing things half mast i must know all.
