What the rules of using onyX properly as I am not seeing much performance different when i run some of the setup on it..

Just wonder what I am doing wrong as lot of people tells me they see a different
 
I doubt you will see much difference since Mac OS runs periodic system tasks daily, weekly and monthly. Those people you are referring to are probably more likely seeing a placebo effect :p
 
Delete the caches in HDD > Library > Caches and HDD > System > Library > Caches and Home > Library > Caches.

Then restart.

Is this really the only thing that needs doing?

My system seem to have slown down quite a bit and start up is no way as quick as it use to be
 
I give it the works using automate about once a month - I can't say I've really noticed any significant slow-down in 9 months of use...
