got my 8800gts from ocuk today , only problem being i have an asus a8n sli mobo and the northbridge has a zalman passive cooler fitted , so i cant put the card in till i get another northbridge cooler,,,the 8800's biiiig compared to my 7900gt... :(
 
I had the exact problem, (same mainboard and heatsink) I'd already chopped off a quater of the fins to allow for my old double slot 6800gt so I thought "what the hell" and chopped off the other quarter to allow for the 8800gts, this was last satuday and I have had zero problems with vista to suggest that the northbrigde is suffering from over heating. I did of course remove the heatsink before taking a hacksaw to it!!!!! I had ordered a new chipset fan, but when it arrived there was no way that the holes on the fan would line up with the holes on my mainboard :o so it was the olny option.

Why dont you enable the SLI (swap the card round) and use the 2nd slot?

Only 8x bandwidth, but its more than enough?

most reviews checked it out and it doesnt need 16x bus
the only card i would put in a 16x slot is the 8800gtx
 
It is a big card, I put one in my core 2 duo, it takes up quite a bit of space. Thankfully the arctic freezer pro and ASUS cooler pipe had more then enough clearance and it fitted perfectly fine.

Cracking bit of kit though, but I was miffed it not only took a PCI E slot but it has also rendered a PCI slot in my PC as useless as it over hung, as the fan etc hangs over the PCI slot below, no change of using it, but small price to pay for such performance in games.

Might get a 120 mm side fan for my antec gaming case if it does start to increase temps, but so far MB temps are around 21c and been this way since I built the system, so its all good.

Good card for the money, recommended.
 
i've got loads of the small blue heatsinks that come with a vf900 vga cooler , the ones you stick seperatley on the memory chips on a card , would i be ok putting them on my northbridge and setting up a zalman br123 to blow air on it ?
 
Yeah needing a 16x slot is utter bull, its only to get you to lash out on one of their motherboards for it as well, they aint stupid, they'll do anything to get your cash Nv.
