So the other day i decided it was time to give my case the once over, clean it all out, remove dust sort out cables etc. so out with the compressor and i start blowing out the case and various other components then i remove the HSF because it was caked in dust, i mean really bad i couldn't believe it! (and i was wondering why my temps were so high :o:D) anyways, after that i was examining my q6600, removing old arctic silver and i decided it just had to be done! So here is my attempt(sorry for the lack of photo's it was somewhat an after thought and my camera was dying, so i had to snap 'em quick with what was to hand lol):

Temps were a lot lower to say the least, i wanted to do it ages ago because of the difference between the cores when maxed out, rather then the temp the system is running day to day. not exactly sure what they were, but i dropped a good 10 degree's from the lapping and a good clean out :D and now there is like a 2 degree difference between all the cores when maxed out if that? i think it was worth it tbh. though at the time i was bricking it, it feels very wrong to be attacking a cpu with some sand paper :P

Didn't really get much kit tbh lol it was very impulsive, but if you went down to halfords you could get the stuff needed to get results i did, but i had some stuff around the house, well, i just used a piece or two of wet and dry 400 till i was back to copper and nice and flat the used the 1200 to buff it up basically, i didn't work my way up through the different grits of sand paper cause i only had those two grits to hand :P have you read the tutorial on the forums on lapping? It's rather good.

Yeah read up on it for a couple of weeks now deciding if its worth it ........ if I can get a 10c drop I'd have to go somewhere private for 5 mins :p

my hsf was extremely clogged up with dust though, lol if i had the before and after pics you would see what it mean:P but the lapping did help with what i wanted and it's look pretty :P lol

thom, very nice finish. How long did it take you to get it like that and what combination of sandpaper did you use?

Thanks, a friend is looking to lap his e4400 at the weekend.
