Ooops...hardware blunder, any thoughts?

Hello all, this is a hardware post kinda so bare with me :)

Long story short, I am a newb and have managed to drop a glass of orange squash near my computer whilst the side of the case was off and it was turned on.

Yep, boy do I feel like a class A gimp :)

Looking at the splash area I think it mostly missed the comptuer but when the glass fell and it all landed I think a splash has gone into the bottom area of the case.

The comptuer was on at the time and just froze in a game I was playing. Turned it off, left it for a while. Everytime I try and press the "Power" button at front of the case it just doesn't boot, sits there doing nothing except the "click" noise of the button.

I can see the green power light on the mobo so I know the power is working, just nothing happens. Now the splash area physically couldn't have gone higher than the Graphics card about 3-4 slots up. I know this because inspected it all quite thoroughly and nothing was wet or visably damaged.

I think it would have landed bottom right of the mobo as you look at it in the case where all the connectors go for the power button, reset, HDD L.E.D, etc. (Possibly)

I built it two years ago so parts are out of Warranty.

Here is my question kinda:

I think it will be the mobo that is busted and replacing it should be job done, however, not having any experience like this before - is there any chance of say the CPU getting fried also in the accident? Is it possible, etc?

I'm worried that I may have to fork out more and if I go buy a new mobo and it doesn't work I'll be annoyed :)

I know it was a rookie mistake, just looking for some more advance hardware opinions than mine.

Thanks all.

You clumsy git :)

I don't think it would have damaged the cpu tbh but the mobo is most certainly dead,

unless it has not dried out properly, how long did you leave it till you tried it.

Left it 24 hours without trying it. Left a fan pointed at it to try and help dry it.

Stripping it is an idea but I think its new mobo time. As long as the other parts are ok I don't really mind.

If it's new mobo time you might be lucky. Check your PCI cards. Watch out for static build-up.

CPU's power circuitry is higher in mobo so I would expect CPU to be intact.
Motherboard probably got shorted from some IC or expansion card slot. Also maybe graphic card if it received some of your drink.
