*oops* I added all the figures up, including the global value.... sorry! Only nearly 6 million shipped....

Was just reading this elsewhere - figures from Nintendo, saying they've shipped nearly 6 million Wii's so far, quite impressive!

Nintendo UK's bossman David Yarnton has revealed to British trade paper MCV some juicy hardware sales figures. And we just know how much you love sales numbers, so here you go. The figures disclosed include total global sales, as well as those in continental Europe and the UK.

Nintendo DS:

Global: 40 million
Europe: 11 million
Britain: 3.1 million

Nintendo Wii:

Global: 5.84 million
Europe: 1.3 million
Britain: 438,000

Says Yarnton:

We've sold close to 438,000 Wiis in the UK in five months. It's really hard to have targets - we have seen unprecedented demand.

Yes, we set targets originally and we have definitely exceeded those. They are continually being re-assessed all the time.

Usually I'm very dubious when companies announce things like this because units shipped does not usually equal units sold (see the Xbox 360 figures, for example). However, the Wii has been a complete sell out everyone so it's reasonable to assume that they've sold almost 6mil.

Congrats Nintendo. :)

Didn't Nintendo confirm the 5.84 million sales figure in their last financal report in April, and that figure only counted sales up until 31st March. They've had 6 weeks of sales since then

Also, Nintendo usually quote Units SOLD not units Shipped. So it would be pretty accurate, regardless that it has sold out everywhere.
As said, these figures are only up to the end of March.

The Wii came out around 6 months ago and most places online still say 'out of stock', unless you want to pay over the RRP to get some bundled games etc.

When will the demand drop and Etailors get stock?

Japanese hardware sales, Apr. 30 - May 6

- DS Lite: 285,123
- Wii: 101,320
- PSP: 35,172
- PS2: 14,815
- PS3: 12,974
- Xbox 360: 3,205
- Gamecube: 394
- Game Boy Micro: 340
- GBA SP: 302
- DS Phat: 69
- GBA: 11

Well, Japan are getting a lot of stock, as they shift >100,000 of them a week!

I'll be selling my Wii anyway, it's a lot of fun, but the games have dried up and since it's the cheapest console i'll use the money i'll get to go towards a PS3 for now, but it's fun, just too bad the games have really really dried up :( :p

You picked the worst time to sell it as some great games are coming out soon.

Aside from that.... selling to get a PS3 that has less games than the Wii, with a worse release schedule for the rest of this year??!?!?
I think you are mad!

Actually the PS3 release schedule is looking up. Some good games out in June/July and then more later in the year as well.
