I have a horrible feeling that the huge 2900Pro I have just bought is going to end up on E-Bay.
I have a dell optiplex GX620 dual CPU tower with 4G of RAM that I wanted to turn into a gaming rig. I bought the 2900Pro for its price and its overclockability, but did not understand the implications of it being a two slot card. Ventilation wise, I will get away with the grill at the front of the card as it will with a bit of modding fit against the case grill so thats OK. BUT I have a major problem with the fan, due to the position of the PCI-x16 slot, the fan on the side of the card is right up against the hood that covers all the CPU and heatsink, so it will not get enough air intake (I presume) to cool the card correctly.
Im looking for help or ideas to enable me to use this card - can I take the hood of the CPU and run extra fans to compensate? I know the hood controls the airflow over the CPU, so I am worried about doing that.
What about cutting a hole in the hood to allow air intake to the fan?
Any ideas will be gratefully received. I know the 8800gt is out now, but this is my first ever big gfx purchase and Im attached to the card and would rather try and get it to work then flog it on ebay and probably lose cash and then buy a GT...

All help considered..

Cheers

Have you bought it online? And has it been dispatched yet?

If you did, and it hasn't, then contact the retailer first thing in the morning to cancel the order and change it to the single-slot 8800GT. If it has been dispatched then you can return it unopened via the Distance Selling laws. But inform the retailer first (if it's been sent by courier then they may allow you to tell the driver to return it).

If you bought it from a local shop then you can return it to them, providing you haven't ripped the packaging.

There's really no need to take a hit by selling it at auction.
