Oops, tried accelerating in the wrong gear

Out of curiosity, was this from standstill you're talking about?

Thats what it sounds like to me, although I can see where people think you just tried putting your foot down whilst rolling in third.

Its just where you say it slipped whilst trying to accelerate in 3rd, but you've since tried accelerating in 3rd without issue.

Yeah if pulling away you would have been letting the clutch out and probably gave it more throttle when it didn't pull away as expected whilst still letting the clutch up.

You probably have stuck a load of extra wear on the clutch compared to pulling away normally but in the grand scheme of things it won't matter IMO.

energy going through a clutch is pretty damn extreme. You seen the daaage and exploding cd can do imagine that 1000x greater.

Just take it in to get checked over

What damage can it do in the bellhousing?

please do tell

OP- Drive it till it blows or slips like hell, then replace.

I used to pull away in second most of the time in my old oil burner! Wouldnt dream of doing such a thing in my new petrol :D

Buy yeah if its slipping in 3rd when setting off then its on its way out.

I've pulled away in 5th on a hill when I got my first car, just to proove I could do it. Man that stunk. But didn't cause any major problems, clutch was still going strong 8k miles later when i sold it on.

It'll be fine.

The people in this thread telling you to take it to a garage and get it checked over can't be serious?

Its not exactly an easy job to take a physical look at someones clutch you know :p

Made me laugh too. The abuse I've put some of my cars through...lol. It will be fine seriously. If it ain't broke....

All depends were you slipping the clutch, or was it slipping on it's own accord.

if you were slipping the clutch. The wear and tear will be next to nothing. (this is the most likely and not a problem at all)

Or were the revs changing down to the clutch slipping on it's own accord then that's a problem.

Or do you mean you let the clutch out and it dropped to 3k rpm, then slowly rose to 4.5k as you accelerated. In which case that would be fine and again next to no wear.

He probably means the revs rose because of crap throttle/clutch control, i.e. car threatens to stall, dip clutch slightly and loads of revs, rather than a genuine slip.

Either way I'd leave it though. It's very unlikely it'll go after one slip, they tend to give serious notice that they're nacard before actually giving out.
