Open GL/Use Hardware?

Is someone able to tell me what the difference between Open GL and Use Hardware is? I'm really not sure which of the settings to use for my games.
 
"Use Hardware" probably means Direct3D.
Test for yourself and see which gives best resoluts. If you have an ATI card then D3D will likely be better.
