Open Hardware Monitor + 955 Temps

First off, let me just say that I replaced my cooler about 2-3 months ago. I picked a Xigmatek Dark Knight S1283. I used MX-4 thermal paste. I've got dreadful dexterity and I'd be no good pulling out my mobo and tidying the cables up afterwards, hence I picked that cooler. I wouldn't trust myself doing the job.

I have an east to west orientation, now I have a vertical mounting. Antec 1200 case, so it blows out the top, 3 intake fans, 2 exhaust. You know how it is.

Temps are usually 6 degrees above ambient when Cool n Quiet is enabled. So when it's 22 in here (regularly) my CPU Tcase? sits at 28c. That's when the CPU is at 803Mhz. Simple stuffs perhaps 8 degrees when at 803Mhz per Core. My "Tcase" is currently 30c with ambient being about 22.5-23c. As the sun sets behind my house it gets quite warm. During the spring, like today for example, the ambient can easily rise to 24 or 26, with the monitor and PC/PS3 adding to the heat output. Summer time is the real killer. We'll see here if my CPU cooler change made any difference.

Is the top one Tcase? Max Tcase for this CPU is 62c (Note this CPU is C2 Stepping - not C3). I'm unsure what Open Hardware Monitor is displaying at the top. Either way, it seems quite accurate judging by ambiet temps and the core temps. (Tested core temps via different programs they match)

When I'm at 3.2Ghz with AMD Cool n' Quiet off, I'm usually about 12-13 degrees above ambient when doing simple tasks on the PC. So 22c ambient will be normally be about 32-34 Tcase. I run AMD Cool n' Quiet anyway.

What do you think of the temps? Is this OK? I can't afford, nor do I want to change the cooler ever again. Vertical was my only option because I was able to put it on without taking anything off the mobo, an it uses the standard (on board) AMD retention module. Used MX-4, put the paste on, spread it with a card even though with the limited space made it a nightmare. in some areas the paste was thicker than others, but is that ok?

That image was a OC I did on my Crosshair III Formula Mainboard. 3.6Ghz, not much but 3.8 was unstable in prime (not due to temps, but... just unstable). Not great I know, but this'll give you an idea as to how my temps are. The OC was done via CPU Level up lol because I'm a noob! :D

So, the main point of this thread was to ask is Open Hardware Monitor (at the top - in blue) displaying a CPU Tcase temp? Or something else?

Opinions on temps? (I am absolutely not buying another cooler. Fan orientation will have to remain the same because I am not taking the board out)

Thanks folks

I was hoping that. Since (when AMD Cool n' Quiet is off) when using the computer for pretty basic stuff like msn and surfing the net, at 22c ambient, it usually fetches 30-32 on tcase, so thats about 8-10c. At 3.6ghz on Prime it can reach 48c Tcase, that's 26c above ambient. That's pretty ****. I only OC'd because in future, if I need to, I can just OC like that. I got the changing the CPU cooler part out of the way, so in future I won't have to do it. 26c above ambient on Prime for 400Mhz more? :S That's not great at all.

My rig:

ASUS Crosshair III Formula
AMD Phenom II X4 955BE 3.2Ghz AM3 C2 Stepping
Corsair Dominator 1600Mhz DDR3 @ 1333Mhz (freeze/BSOD when resuming from Stand-by (S3) because of the CPUs memory controller :(
XFX 1GB Radeon HD 4870
1010Watt FSP Everest Modular PSU
Windows 7 64 bit Home Premium OEM
Antec 1200

Thought I'd share just so you folks know what I'm dealing with.

3.8 is possible on my machine, but I don't think it'd do much good in mid-summer. If my fan was east to west then no doubt it'd be better, but sadly that isn't an option for me. I can just picture the air being sucked into the front of the antec, making it's way to the back only to be pulled up out of the top, disturbing the flow. Errgh. I hate manufacturers for limiting us AMD folk with smaller number of options.

The 3.2 to 3.6 idea is so when more demanding things are out and about, I can just OC and not bother with an upgrade which will obviously cost. Is 400Mhz even worth it?

Peace
