Hey,

Just received this cooler today, and the ends of the heatpipes on the base are "open" like a straw. I thought heatpipes were sealed and contained either liquid or powder inside. Does this cooler have faulty heatpipes? Here's a picture:

So are these heatpipes faulty, and do I need to return the cooler?

Cheers,

Suman

Hey,

They have definitely not been chopped off (not by me anyway :p). They are actually U-shaped if you can see on the first heatpipe on the left - as if they had not been formed properly at manufacture. It was not from OcUK; they don't sell this item. Definitely a new heatsink though, as the packaging was sealed.

Cheers,

Suman

Sure, here is the replacement:

This one is monged also :( for reference the heatpipes should be totally sealed like this:

Faulty batch maybe??

I've just had an email from the retailer, and they can confirm that it is indeed a faulty batch (they are removing the stock from their shelves).

gt_junkie, you think I should give it a go and see what happens? I could also RMA this for a newer NT06-E which has 5 x 6mm heatpipes (as opposed to 3 x 8mm), but it is lighter so I thought the build quality might be worse (hence going for this model in the first place!)...

Cheers,

Suman

It's very difficult to see whether or not the ends are sealed, but they appear U-shaped quite far into the base of the heatsink... as for filling it with water, I dunno how practical that would be :p
