Since leaving London, I completely forgot about this great annual weekend for architectural photography, until I got reminded a couple of days ago. Currently planning to volunteer for something, so I get a badge that then allows queue jump at other places.

2013 thread: https://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18536543&highlight=open+house

2014 thread was posted too late to contain anything useful, so thought I would share sooner this year.

Closer to the time, a lot of websites will do features about the most interesting buildings to visit, and therefore photograph.

They run an annual photo comp, but the link on the website is dead atm.

Nice one thanks for sharing! This looks excellent and would love to get some more architectural photography done.

Thank you, already booked ;)

They also use your photos without permission too.
I'm not talking about any that have been entered for the competition. But, from social media.
I noticed one of mine being used last year.

Ballots & Bookings
There are a few cases where bookings are required to be made in advance. However, in line with the original Open House London ethos of providing access to all, no bookings are administered by us. Contact details for relevant buildings will be provided in the published guide as well as online.

Ballots are operated in a small number of instances. The ballots are now closed and winners have been notified.

missed out

Some ballots are still open.

I was really looking into this a while ago. With the exception of the 'ballot' buildings, do you just turn up to the others and simply walk in?

Just had a quick look at hotels, and they seem even more expensive than usual, so might pop down on the train for a day (not that that's cheap either!)

Really? Where were they using it, and where did you share it?

Seems very odd. Many something buried in their T&C's.

I signed up as a guide for Sat pm, and expecting to receive a (queue-jump) volunteer badge by post. Will see if anything catches my eye for Sat am, or if will visit Sunday too.

^Yes, just turn up. Be mindful of queues at very popular buildings e.g. Gherkin, Llyod's, etc.

I noticed it on last years Smartphone app. I'm not sure if it was used in the printed guide.
And I'm not sure if it's been used in previous years.

I shared the photo on their Flickr page back in 2009

Ah, I remember your photo. I am curious, because I share mine from Flickr in their group too. Though mine are set not to be downloadable/saved.

Do you mean you're remembering it from seeing it in some of their guides etc?
If so, has it been featured over a number of years?

Mine should be set to not download/save.
But, they might have taken a screen grab.

Do you have to buy the guide or app to get the list now? I don't recall doing that for previous years

I think so yeh, I was about to buy the app as it's almost certain I'll be heading down with the misses on the Saturday.

But I guess with the app you can pick the buildings you want to visit and organise them easily.

EDIT: Just booked our trains and hotel. Only there for the Saturday though. Looking forward to it!

We're staying right near Lloyds/Gherkin buildings, so we will probably get there first. If it opens at 8am, what time would you start queuing from?

Deffo go there first, as whenever I've walked past it during busy times, I have been told it can be 2-3h queue. And volunteer badge doesn't work there anyway, so it's one place I haven't been able to visit.

Maybe 7am would be a good call, and get breakfast whilst queing.

Anyone go?

I volunteered at the Institution of Structural Engineers, but didn't go anywhere else as was with company.

Having said that, I went for a drink at the Sky Gardens at the top of the Walkie Talkie and that place is amazing - deffo worth a visit for the setting and views.
