OK - I manage to do this every time I reinstall my OS.
If somebody manages to tell me what I'm doing wrong and gives me the setting I need to change I promise I'll note it down this time for future reference!
So, Vista machine running IE7.
Just done a system rebuild so this is a brand new OS install - along with all my applications, programs, utils, games etc.
If I'm in IE7 and I encounter a .wmv, .mpg, .avi link and I click on it what usually happens is the tab says "Connecting" but that is it.
I have seen when clicking on a .wmv file it download the file and then start playing it in Media Player.
Before this reinstallation, whenever I clicked on a .wmv, .mpg or .avi file immediately MS Media Player would launch and then a second or so later the movie file would start playing.
If there was any downloading going on it was in the background.
I simply clicked on the link, Media Player automatically launched and then the movie file started playing.
There must be a setting somewhere that allows this to happen that either I've not set or one of the many applications, utils, codecs etc I've installed has changed.
Any idea where I should start looking?
I just want to click on the movie file, have Media Player launch and the movie start playing.
