Hey, I purchase a white open reach modem so I could use my Asus DSL-N55U in place of the Homehub 5 (which decided to die today).
However when I plug the openreach modem in direct to my PC and the master socket I cannot establish an internet connection, the LAN1 and DSL lights are ok but no access. Am I missing a vital step here?

em no...I need to emphasise here that I am a networking noob.

From Control Panel -> Network and Sharing Center -> Set up a new connection or network -> Connect to the internet -> Broadband (PPPoE)

should just need to fill in your username and password.

You usually connect a router to the modem. You then configure the router with the PPPoE settings.

If you connect a PC directly to the modem you need to configure it to do the PPPoE bit. Google 'windows PPPoE Openreach' and you'll find guides.

Why are you trying to connect directly rather than using your router?

Ah ok, sorry I was under the impression that everything was already set up. No reason really just thought that I might have had to enable the modem as a bridge first, but there are no config menus.

thanks

All working now, and seems to be a faster set up than the homehub for some reason....lets hope this solves my internet drop outs today
