Open source car racing game

Anyone got any experience of open source car racing games using OpenGL such as
http://torcs.sourceforge.net/ ??

or is there something better? I need to modify the code to add data-recording (e.g. torque, power, speeds, accelerations) for a university project.

Thanks but this isnt a racing game, its a sim for manouevring trucks and cranes etc, very impressive soft body physics, but simple graphics. Would need a lot of work to add the racetrack, multiplayer, etc,
