Anyone got any recommendations for this sort of Software, got a a Thermal Printer all I need is an software to run it, any helpers here, thanks in advance!

It is for my brother, he runs a shop that sells Ornaments and gifts etc.

Also was thinking of building him a small little XP computer or shall I use linux in order for the epos software to work?

Another think I wanted to add was, if I also bought a Scanner of fleebay would that be possible or not simusteanously with the printer and making it a complete epos system?

last time I looked into this there wasn't ANY open source software good enough to do the job. It was about 3 years ago though, but the problem was that none of them had enough basic features to make it worthwhile. Is the thermal printer an Epson by any chance, if so then drivers are available for windows but under other OS's they are a PITA. I'm not saying it isn't possible....but it's harder than you think it will be. I spent hours with the system my old place had before it was stable, and all the time I was also trying to sell stuff to make sure the place survived (which in the end it didn't!)

Check out AirPOS. I believe it is free for basic features on a single till point. Uses a Freemium model for extra features.

Something commercial with a bit of support perhaps? :p. Unless your bother doesn't mind his EPOS breaking without support or anyone to fix it.

This was the issue I ran into...ended up with a cheap(ish) solution. Can't remember the name but it was £100 + vat

£100 + VAT is not a bad price with a bit of support. There's no point trying to save a few hundred pounds using open source or something that will break with no support.

Yeah, we were pretty pleased...it ran for about 5 years with minimal problems and a Shuttle pc running XP and a usb touchscreen and Epson till printer with a USB till drawer, all bought cheap(ish) from Fleabay!
