I have been a Linux user for a long time but fancy getting a MBA and want to know if I will need to buy software or does the Mac be have to a good open source scene.
Second what @HACO says plus you have Homebrew, MacPorts and Fink for package management but you'll find a lot of (dedicated) MacOS apps are now paid unfortunately.
The main issue is that certificates from apple cost - so you have to disable that with opensource to run. Now days I use basic stuff on the Mac, then have a VirtualBox running linux for opensource stuff. It also stops all the buildup bloat from random libraries etc for opensource software.
