hi there,

I want to setup RDP on a friends desktop I constantly help and who lives miles away...

Is there a definitive guide? that will tell me what to do? for example, which ports to open in the router, what to enable in his settings etc? he is on win 7 ultimate

please let me know

i know there are products that allow you to do this easily like, teamviewer, log me in etc but I would really like to know how to do it the traditional way

thanks guys

'tis simples, find the guys IP by going to command prompt and typing ipconfig and then go to the routers firewall page and open port 3389 TCP and forward it to port 3389 on the local IP.

One thing you might want to do is set up either an IP reservation for the PC (so it always gets the same IP when using DHCP) or set a static IP.

As for doing this remotely, usually this is a feature that can be enabled in the router (if you look up what the router is and find the documentation then you would talk your friend through it step by step) or logmein should do the trick.
