OpenOffice ?

It's great. Only one problem. if pages are heavily formatted. Ie. lines, borders, tables etc etc. They don't look the same once open up in word.

Apart from that it's brilliant.

I swear by it now. Though one question - does anybody know how to stop it's quick launcher from starting during windows start up?

Then uncheck it along with most of the other rubbish.

I have done that, along with using ccleaners start up menu editor thing. But it STILL loads up on windows start up! I suppose I will have to give it marks for persistancy, but seriously, wtf dude I'm getting pnwed to be honest :o

As said. Very very good considering its free. Works on Windows and Linux which is handy for my degree. I also need to be able to hand work in using PDFs so this is a little box of tricks for me.

You can untick it from the msconfig dialog, or just remove it from the list of items for OpenOffice to install. :)

used it myself and found it to be excellent.

I then looked at replacing MS office with OO instead at my work, however found that the spreadsheets some people use and need to keep in MS format too forever to load in OO.

This is only because they were in xls format rather than OO's native format and because the xl files were huuge with massive formulaes and references to other xl files.

To all intents and purposes though Open Office rocks!

Go to Tools/Options/Memory (in the OpenOffice.org section) - clear the tick box "Load OpenOffice.org during system start-up"

OpenOffice is great - and OpenOffice.org Portable is even greater, because you don't need to install anything. :)
