Hello i just changed over to Opensuse from Mandriva the other day on my Asus A4 series laptop problem is i can't get opensuse to shutdown properly

when i click shutdown it go's to the Shutdown, Restart and suspend screen but when i click shutdown it doesn't do anything so wondered what may be the problem

if you run sudo shutdown -h now does that work?

Assuming it does (it should), your user probably doesn't have the correct permissions to shutdown the system.

Afraid I have no idea which permissions are required by Gnome/KDE to allow shutdowns, maybe try adding your user to the power group (gpasswd -a myuser power)? If that fails, it's probably a strange config option somewhere, sure someone here will know how it works :)

Cheers for the reply and i gave it a try and all i got was below :)

We trust you have received the usual lecture from the local System
Administrator. It usually boils down to these three things:

#1) Respect the privacy of others.
#2) Think before you type.
#3) With great power comes great responsibility.
